Dos Dia

Since I haven’t been able to get consistent internet on both my laptop and the internet cafes, I’m behind a few blogs and will update accordingly. On our second day here in Peru we woke up from our hostel in Miraflores and traveled four hours to Ica. We stayed at the hotel, “Sol de Ica,” with my roommates being Tess and Kris. The hotel was a pastel yellow/orange, nice and modern but unfortunately I was stuck taking brick cold showers for the four days we were in town. The hotel had a nice hangout area with a pool and pets consisting of two very horny turtles and a bird similar to a parrot.

Since we spent most of the day traveling and getting settled in, our group ended up relaxing during the afternoon and going out to a karaoke bar, “Sopranos.” If I’m able to post the video of the guys singing “My Heart Will Go On” to our Professor, Monica, I will. For 20 soles, or about $6.50 U.S. dollars each, we rented out a tiny room and sang songs ranging from “Don’t Stop Believing” to “Fa La Americano” and “Oye Como Va.” We each were able to get drinks from our 20 soles credit and I ended up getting a pina colada which was delicious. Since Tara and I missed the memo that we were supposed to grab dinner beforehand, we ended up going downstairs to “Roky’s” and ordering what appeared to be sliced hotdogs over French fries. We returned to the bar to find that everyone else wanted to eat so we tagged along with them and wandered around Ica’s plaza. We settled for a pizza place which was decent from the bite of Hawaiian pizza I had. I ordered a mango smoothie to satisfy my hunger for ice chips or anything cold since in Peru or probably all of South America everything is kept at room temperature. Actually, when I met my host mother she put out a bowl of ice for Rosana and me and said, “I know how Americans love ice.” Already my host mother has taken good care of me since those that know me really well know I’m a hardcore ice chip muncher/monster. Anyway, I left the pizza place early with Tara since we were both exhausted and went to bed.
